Event description

Show Description:

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents' strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,
And the continuance of their parents' rage,
Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

Taking inspiration from melodramatic, hyper-stylised and exaggerated films such as Wild at Heart and Crybaby, this iteration of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet will take a more comedic rather than tragic tone for the tale by presenting the classic love story with a passionate, deeply infatuated couple and characters who highlight the absurdity of this ill-fated romance through their exaggerated and melodramatic actions. It acknowledges the simple truth that life is short, and so why should we scold a young couple who are just trying to live their lives as blissfully as they can?

Beyond all that, this show asks the infamous question...

What would happen if the most famous love story of all time was performed by actors who were taking shots live on stage?

Runtime: 2h 30m (approx.) with a 15 minute interval
