About the Authors
Marie Carter
Marie Carter was born in Scotland but has called New York City home since 2000. She is the author of the books Mortimer and the Witches: A History of Nineteenth-Century Fortune Tellers, Holly’s Hurricane, and The Trapeze Diaries. As a local tour guide, she leads specialized walking tours, including macabre, strange, and haunted histories for Boroughs of the Dead; women’s forgotten contributions for She Was Here; and unique feline lore for Cats About Town.
Stacy Horn
Stacy Horn is a journalist and author of seven nonfiction books, including Damnation Island: Poor, Sick, Mad & Criminal in 19th Century New York, which the The Bowery Boys described as “your page-turning horror read for the summer.” That book turned out to be excellent preparation for the horror read she was to write next, The Killing Fields of East New York: The First Subprime Mortgage Scandal, a White-Collar Crime Spree, and the Collapse of an American Neighborhood. The New York Times described this book as “a fast-paced and at times crackling yarn about the Brooklyn prosecutors and F.B.I. agents who pursued predatory lenders and brokers … a compelling reminder of the catastrophic consequences of white-collar crime.”
