Come join us for an engaging expert panel with the Dr Van Jackson, Nicky Hager and Dr Reuben Steff as we discuss New Zealand's stance on AUKUS - the trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The panelists will each speak for ten minutes on how Aotearoa should approach AUKUS before opening the floor for questions.
Who are the speakers?
Dr. Iati IatiĀ is a Senior Lecturer in the Politics and International RelationsĀ Programme, and Pacific Security Fellow in the Centre for Strategic Studies,Ā VUW. He teaches International Security and New Zealand Foreign Policy at theĀ undergraduate level, and Strategic Studies at the Masters level. He co-editedĀ New Zealand and the WorldĀ and has published journal articles and bookĀ chapters on geopolitical competition, governance, and democracy in theĀ Pacific.
Nicky Hager works as an author and investigative journalist, including as a New Zealand member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. He has written seven books on intelligence, politics and war.
Dr Reuben Steff is Senior Lecturer of Geopolitics and International Relations at the University of Waikato, specializing in Great Power Competition and New Zealand geopolitics. Prior to his time in academia, he spent 2.5 years working on international security issues in the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has multiple journal publications and authored four books, including his forthcoming volume, New Zealandās Geopolitics in the US-China Great Power Competition.
