    Event description

Melbourne Bushwalkers invites you to join them on an exploration of the O’Shannassy Aqueduct and Redwood Forest. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

This is a delightful walk in the mountain forest at the back of Warburton.  It is a photographer’s dream with magnificent views down into the Yarra Valley as well as some well-known Victorian vegetation in the form of Mountain Ash trees and tree ferns.

DISTANCE:  The walk is approximately 10 km along a predominantly flat well-formed track.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR?   The walk is suitable for people who have had no experience in bushwalking and are reasonably fit.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE 2 (Easy):  AWT Grade information.

PACE:   We always walk at the pace of the slowest walker and on this trip we will not be walking very quickly.

TOTAL ASCENT:  As most of the walk will be along a flat trail, there is little climbing.

WALK DESCRIPTION:  We will be following the route of an historical water supply channel which used to transport water from the O’Shannassy reservoir to Mitcham.  We will be walking along part of the route and finishing at the spectacular Redwood Forest.

MEETING POINT:   We will be meeting at the lower end of the Redwood Forest car park, not far after crossing over the bridge on Cement Creek Road - see Melway Map 291 F3

DIRECTIONS:  Head east along Canterbury Rd and up through Mt Evelyn and follow signs to Wandin and the Warburton Hwy.  Continue through Warburton and East Warburton until Cement Creek Rd is encountered at Melway map 291 F4 Google Maps Link

CARPOOLING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT:    If feasible we will consider using carpooling.  Please contact the leaders if you want to be included.

PHONE SIGNAL:   There should be no problem receiving a phone signal during the walk.

TOILETS:  There will not be any toilets on the walk, but there are plenty of trees to hide behind along the route!
