Event description

Take this opportunity to learn and become certified in supporting older adults, seniors and elders in our community around their mental health needs and wellbeing.

During times of crisis and natural disasters, we know that our mental health suffers in our community.

This free and accredited 2-day community training opportunity will give participants the tools for people who work with, care for or support adults aged 65+ how to provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in older adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem, and the treatments and supports available.

Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, course participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns. Participants also learn how to offer initial support and information and how to encourage the person to seek professional help or other supports.

Spots limited! Registration required. Attendance on both days is required for course qualification.

This 2-day course is suitable for people over 18, community members and service workers. Meals and refreshments will be provided for both days.

Cost:
  • Volunteer: Free

  • Professional: $30.00 + booking fee

*This training is targeted for volunteers, however if you wish to join the training in your professional capacity (eg: you are being paid by your employer to attend) please select the professional ticket at the checkout.
