OCEAN LOVERS TALKS - What’s with the weather? Ocean driven extremes

Join Natasha Mitchell, host of Radio National Big Ideas, to hear experts in meteorology and climate modelling unpack the science behind the powerful relationship between ocean change and the rise in intensified storms, flooding, and heatwaves around Australia.

SPEAKERS:

Matthew England, Centre of Marine Science and Innovation UNSW

Matthew England is Scientia Professor of Ocean & Climate Dynamics at the UNSW Centre for Marine Science and Innovation, and Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science. 

Dr Milton Speer, University of Technology Sydney

Extensive experience initially as an operational meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology from 1977. Since leaving the BoM my research has expanded into the extremes relating to climate change science including attribution of climate drivers. 

Kristen Splinter, University of NSW

Born under the Zodiac Sign of Aquarius, Kristen has always been drawn to water. She studies how coastlines change with changing wave climates and has a strong passion for engaging young kids to explore STEM and the ocean.
