October Article Club: Book + Bottle x Tampa Bay Times

Want to feel more connected to your community? Want to read writing that informs and delights? Want a behind-the-scenes look at how news is gathered and how stories are brought to life by journalists covering our state? The Tampa Bay Times and Book + Bottle are teaming up to host a monthly article club. We’ll introduce you to stories that matter and offer the chance to engage in lively, respectful and thought-provoking discussions. Times journalist Lauren Peace will be facilitating the conversation. Come join us to talk about the art of journalism and how to find reliable information in an oversaturated world.

We meet each month at Book + Bottle from 5-6:30 p.m. We grab drinks and get settled from 5-5:30, then discussion runs promptly from 5:30-6:30.

This month will feature a conversation with Health Reporter Lauren Peace and Data Reporter Teghan Simonton.

Lauren and Teghan spent more than a year uncovering the story of how a local child welfare agency separated children and parents off the official books. Labeled “hidden foster care”, experts say the system strips parents of due process rights and children of financial support and the services they’d be entitled to in the traditional system. 

On Sunday we’ll talk about their investigation and take you behind the scenes of their reporting.
