Official Opening: GOLDEN LIGHT

Corrine Rapley’s oil paintings draw inspiration from the intricate play of light on Australia’s diverse landscapes, especially its enchanting coastlines and tranquil waterways.
This 5th Solo Exhibition delves further into the theme of light, offering viewers a captivating glimpse into the artist’s portrayal of Australia’s natural beauty.

Artistic Practice

My artwork explores the regions of Australian landscape hemmed by coastlines and inland waterways and is a true to life record of my experiences and love for the scenery that features regularly in my artworks. Wherever my location, I am always captivated by the rugged beauty of nature, and its naturally occurring complimentary colour harmonies.

I have become especially interested in light effects within the landscape. The way the light source creates interesting shadow shapes and bright highlights.
My home art studio in Bouvard provides stunning views over the waters and vegetation of the Peel Harvey Estuary. These views inspire many of my artworks depicting sunrises, moonrises, and sunsets, which have become prominent themes in my art practice. I primarily use oils applied with brushes and palette knife to create texture but have also continued to explore using gold leaf under oils as another way to express the brilliance and shininess of the light.
