Official Opening of the Newly Renovated Servants Quarters at the Bush House Museum
Description
Official Opening of the Newly Renovated Servants Quarters at the Bush House Museum.
These rooms remind us that history is shaped not only by those who owned the house, but also by those who kept it running.
You are invited to celebrate the newly restored Servants’ Quarters at the Bush House Museum and begin exploring the stories of the women and men who worked inside and outside Bush House.
Through the restored upstairs rooms where they lived and an exhibit of household objects they used in their work, we begin to bring their experiences into the broader story of Bush House.
These stories are now part of our daily Bush House tours and reflect our ongoing commitment to presenting a more inclusive history of Bush House and the Salem community.
This work is part of our multi-year initiative, Many Voices, Many Stories: Salem’s Immigrant Experience from Then and Now. The Servants’ Quarters offer glimpses into the lives of immigrant workers who came to Salem, found their way to Bush House, and became part of the daily life of the household.
While you’re here, we also invite you to visit our upcoming exhibition in the America Waldo Bogle Gallery, We Lived to Tell the World: The Immigrant Story. Featuring selected photographs of immigrants to Oregon and stories of the meaningful objects they brought with them on their journeys, the exhibition offers another window into the experiences, histories, and personal stories that shape our community.
