The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Perth, features distinctive Art Deco architecture with clean, geometric lines typical of the style. It is located on St Georges Terrace in Perth and was designed by Ochiltree and Hargrave in the late 1930s. The building is characterized by its minimalistic, yet elegant façade, incorporating vertical emphasis and streamlined motifs. The church’s structure reflects both functionality and aesthetic appeal, blending modernist architectural elements with the church’s spiritual purpose. This heritage-listed building stands as an architectural icon in Perth’s cityscape.

There’s no doubt that the people of Perth have a hunger for good design, a passion for great architecture and a burning desire to experience this unique event.

Open House Perth was founded by Carly Barrett in 2011. The Open House concept was founded in London in 1992 with the aim of fostering a better understanding of architecture outside the architecture profession – it now spans the globe. Open House Perth is part of this Open House Worldwide family, and it’s in good company too! Perth’s Open House sister cities including London, New York, Dublin, Jerusalem, Oslo, Chicago, Rome, Buenos Aires, Vienna, Athens, Prague, Madrid, Milan, Melbourne, Brisbane, Zurich, Stockholm, Atlanta and Mexico City to name a few.

It is hoped that people use this event to increase their knowledge of Perth’s built environment, gain a greater understanding of sustainable practices in design, get inspiration for their next renovation project, show off the city to visitors, or just have a good old fashioned sticky beak!
