Oi Musica Training for Youth Music Practitioners

Oi Musica is delighted to host this training opportunity for music practitioners - with Dr Phil Mullen as key speaker. The theme is Inclusive Music Making, and the event is open to music educators, community music specialists and those whose work includes youth music.

Make sure to bring your instrument! The event will include presentations, time for questions & discussion, as well as practical music making.

FRIDAY 10 MARCH, 1.30-5.30pm at Out of the Blue Drill Hall

- followed by social time and a chance to play music together. The Drill Hall Cafe will be serving hot dinner (£7) & drinks for us until 8.30pm (order & pay on the day - not covered by the event)

SATURDAY 11 MARCH, 11am - 5pm at Out of the Blue Drill Hall

Oi Musica's youth project Brass Blast has grown from 40 to 80 young people in the past 6 months, so we are keen to bring our team of music tutors and practitioners together to focus on further developing our collective knowledge and approach to inclusive working. This training is open to all, and will cover broad topics that are relevant to practitioners form a wide range of projects and programmes.

Phil Mullen has worked for thirty-seven years developing music with people who are socially excluded. He specialises in working with excluded children and young people at risk. He has run workshops, seminars and training in 27 countries across Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia.

Since 2018 Phil has worked with over 40 of England’s music hubs, helping them develop strategic approaches to musical inclusion.

Phil has a PHD from Winchester University and has written a number of book chapters on musical inclusion including for the Oxford Handbook of Community Music (2018). Phil’s book “Challenging Voices: Music making with young people excluded from school” is published by Peter Lang.
