Description

What role do stories play in defending democratic values? Join acclaimed author and sociologist Okky Madasari for a discussion on how literature helps us understand power, challenge injustice, and imagine more open and inclusive societies.

From censorship and freedom of expression to independent publishing and the realities of cultural work, the conversation will explore how writers, readers, and cultural institutions contribute to public debate and democratic life. Participants are invited to engage directly with Okky in an open dialogue on writing, civic courage, and the future of Indonesia’s democratic space. This is Kolektif Discussion #5, organised by Monash Kolektif, an Indonesian student collective at Monash University.
