"Nancye Wynne Bolton" OLA Golf Day 2025
Event description
All Old Lauristonians and members of the wider Lauriston community are invited to come together for a day of golf and lunch at the magnificent Lonsdale Links Golf Club, which is rated in the top 20 Golf Courses throughout Australia!
Special mention to Georgie Clegg (Best, OL 1966) who is hosting us at her club - Lonsdale Links in Point Lonsdale! Thanks Georgie! xx
Please note that early bird tickets exclusive to Old Lauristonians are now open, until 15 October. Following this, the school community will be invited to purchase tickets.
Numbers are strictly limited so it will be a case of first in, best dressed.
There are several options to choose from depending on your golfing level. All golfing options include lunch:
18-hole Stableford competition - $120 (including lunch)
9-hole 'Ambrose' competition - $95 (including lunch). Ambrose is a team event and is less pressure than Stableford. The team decides which team member's shot, from the whole team, they want to use, and all team members then hit their next shots from that position! Perfect for those who have done the clinics in the past and/or had a few hits on the driving range and (semi) ready to hit the course!
Lunch only - $50. For those who just wish to join us for a lovely 2-course lunch at the fabulous Lonsdale Links Club House!
You can purchase an individual ticket and we will put you in a group with your friends or other OLs near to your peer year, or you can purchase multiple tickets for your group.
All golfing options include the lunch. If you would like to come for lunch with no golf - we warmly encourage you to book in just for the lunch! The more, the merrier (and there's no maximum number for lunch)!
If you are a member of Lonsdale Links Golf Club, you are not charged greens fees and therefore the cost will be $50 per member - for all golf options. Please include your membership number during registration.
If you are participating in the 18-Hole Stableford Competition, registration and a group photo will take place at 8.00 am, followed by a shotgun start at 8.30 am.
If you are participating in the 9-Hole Ambrose Competition, registration and a group photo will take place at 10.00 am, following by a commencement/shotgun start at 10.30 am.
All players and guests will have access to change rooms following play. For information on Lonsdale Links Golf Club dress standards, please go here. If you would like to view the course online, please go here. If you wish to organise a golf buggy, please arrive 15 minutes early and head to the Pro Shop - charges are $35 (buggies must be pre-booked directly with the club, by calling +61 3 5258 1955). Golf Carts are complimentary.
Lunch will commence at around 1.00 pm. Drinks can be purchased from the bar.
So round up your old Lauri mates and let's put this well-deserved treat in your diaries!
We look forward to a wonderful day of magnificent golf and catching up with friends old and new!
NB: The 4 Old Lauristonian golfers with the highest scores will be invited to represent the OLA at the AGSV Girls' Interschools Championship in 2026.
Inaugural Nancye Wynne Bolton (OL 1933) Golf Day
The OLA Golf Day is named in honour of an outstanding Old Lauristonian - Nancye Wynne Bolton.
A Tennis Champion
Nancye was a 6-times Australian Championship tennis player and enjoyed a remarkable professional tennis career during the 1930s and 1940s travelling the world and competing in tournaments like the US Open and Wimbledon. If it weren’t for the break in play during WWII, it is considered that Nancye may have been the most successful Australian female tennis player of all time, and is still ranked 3rd in the Australian Championships to Margaret Court and Serena Williams.
A Golfing Champion
In the early 1950s, having enjoyed a tennis career where she matched the world's best players, Nancye joined Kew Golf Club and began another career. Nancye became very skillful in golf and reduced her handicap to single figures very quickly, playing off 4 eventually. Her golf game improved to the point where she won the club championship seventeen times! Nancye played pennant golf in Kew's premier team for thirty years. She was a semi-finalist in the State Championship in 1955 and was still rated in the top few female golfers in Victoria in the early 1960s.
She was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and, a year later, Nancye was inducted into the Tennis International Hall of Fame. Nancye, a proud Old Lauristonian, passed away in 2001, aged eighty five.
