Old Cheese Factory - Lino Print Making Classes
Event description
Old Cheese Factory has a new kid on the block - WEEKLY LINO PRINT MAKINGÂ CLASSES.
After 3 sold out Winter Warm Workshops, we are excited to offer an 8 week long term - all about Lino Printing.
Coming from two different creative backgrounds, Ashini and Yaz are offering weekly guided workshops covering techniques, application and 1-1 use of the Printing Press.
This is suitable for all abilities and is a great opportunity to meet other creatives over a carving block and biscuits.
TEACHING ARTISTS BIO
ASHINI KULATUNGE
Ashini Kulatunge is a self taught artist based in Naarm/Melbourne. She began her art journey at the age of 33 during covid lockdowns in 2019 as a way of coping through some tough life hurdles. Although she had studied art in high school, it was a different experience for her to create as an adult, and it gave her an opportunity to expand on her creative expression. She fell in love with the process and has been painting every day since. Ashini works mostly with watercolour, gouache, pencils, and crayons and has recently started to explore collage and paper art. Ashini uses art an escape but also a filter to see the world differently and to meet wonderful creative minds.
YAZ GATE (née del Mar)
Melbourne-based Yaz Gaté, née del Mar, is founder of Tiny Cupboard Creatives - a small enterprise providing exciting in studio and virtual classes, workshops and events for learners of all ages, as well as commissioned artwork and creative collaborations with other artists and organisations such as The Tarra Warra Museum of Art, The City of Greater Dandenong, Glen Eira Council, Linden New Arts and the Philippine Embassy of Australia.
Yaz specialises in canvas and digital art but has a wide practice that includes textiles and sewing, lino printing and drawing. She has a strong interest in botanicals, their connection to cultural identity and the way culture and life stories shape art making. Over the last 5 years, she has drawn on her own Filipino Australian background to explore the way migration and family can impact storytelling in art. Yaz typically uses bold black lines and vibrant colour palette inspired by Filipino desserts in making her work distinctive.
