    Event description

Michael Gawenda's memoir, My Life as a Jew, preceding October 7, eerily prophesied the difficult questions that confront many Jews today, in terms of identity, place and time. Hear Gawenda as he cuts to the core of these issues in a heartfelt, honest conversation with former colleague and fellow journalist, James Button.

    Speakers:

Michael Gawenda: renowned Australian journalist and author with a four-decade career, having served as a political reporter, foreign correspondent, columnist, feature writer, and editor. He has won three Walkley awards and was the editor-in-chief of The Age from 1997 to 2004. He is the author of five books, with his latest, "My Life As a Jew," published in October 2023.

James Button (moderator): former feature writer and Europe correspondent for The Age and Sydney Morning Herald, has won three Walkley awards and a Melbourne Press Club Quill award. He authored "Speechless: A Year in My Father’s Business" and "Comeback: The Fall and Rise of Geelong." He now works as a writer, speechwriter, and editor.
