On Consciousness: Tibetan Mindfulness Techniques for a Modern World

A Wisdom Webinar with Thupten Jinpa in conversation with Berry Liberman

Small Giants Academy warmly invites you to the next conversation in our Wisdom Webinar series — a space for meaningful encounters with the world’s most remarkable thinkers and visionaries. Together, we ask: How might we reimagine our world to create the conditions for shared thriving for all beings?

This August, Berry Liberman sits down with Thupten Jinpa - renowned Tibetan Buddhist scholar, translator to His Holiness the Dalai Lama since 1985, and a lifelong student and teacher of compassion - to explore the enduring question of what it means to live a sacred life in a rapidly changing world.

At a time when culture, climate, and consciousness are in flux, Jinpa’s voice carries the gentle weight of timeless wisdom. This conversation weaves together his deep reflections from four decades alongside the Dalai Lama, his work preserving the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and insights from a recent pilgrimage across the Himalayan mountains of Ladakh.

Together, we’ll explore how ancient practices of mind training and compassion can help us navigate the turbulence of our time — and why preserving the sacred might be our most radical act of hope.

Together we’ll inquire into:

– What does the sacred mean in a technological age

– Why is it urgent to preserve the Tibetan tradition, and how can it evolve with the modern world, especially with younger generations

– What are the greatest risks and greatest possibilities for Tibetan Buddhism in the 21st century
– How can Tibetan Buddhist mind training help us cultivate inner clarity and resilience
– What lessons has Jinpa learned from decades alongside His Holiness the Dalai Lama

– What inspired the founding of the Compassion Institute, and how is its work bringing ancient wisdom into secular, science-based programs for modern life
– How do we walk a path of meaning and service in everyday life
