On the Frontline: Multicultural Media's Vital Role in Public Interest Journalism

This is a rare opportunity to convene and hear a range of speakers discuss the role of multicultural media in public interest journalism. Key questions for discussion include how multicultural media engage their communities at times of crisis; multicultural media’s relationship with government; what are the next best steps for multicultural media to strengthen its cross-platform journalism; and what does the “public’’ in public interest journalism mean in the multicultural context.
Hear from our special guests: Kos Samaras, of Red Bridge Group, Anthea Hancocks, of the Scanlon Foundation and prominent figure in Australian multiculturalism Dr Hass Dellal.
In addition, there will be two panel discussions, canvassing current issues of government engagement, crisis communications and digital transformation.
Our panellists include: Alice Nicolas, publisher of The Philippine Times, the longest-running Filipino publication in Australia; Mariam Koslay is a former Fairfax Media journalist and a government relations specialist and recipient of the Western Bulldogs Women of the West Award (2024); Dr. Fan Yang is a postdoctoral research fellow at Melbourne Law School and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society. And also Christopher Gogos, publisher, Neos Kosmos; Julius Larobina, Managing Director, Italian Media Corp; Wendy Huang, Managing Director of Chinese News and Media Group Pty Ltd (Australia’s largest Chinese media platform) and Jitarth Jai Bharadwaj, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, the Australia Today Network.
