Event description

Celebrate International Women’s Day and shine a light for the millions of women and girls living in extreme energy poverty.

One Light Only is SolarBuddy's inaugural virtual festival boasting a range of prominent Australian artists and performers, who are banding together to create a brighter future for women and girls across the world.

In 2019, there were an estimated 132 million girls out of school. According to UNESCO, COVID prevented a further 1.52 billion children from attending school, some of whom won’t return.

Girls are at heightened risk of losing vital years’ of education to household chores and care-giving roles carried out throughout the day, especially during the pandemic.

Through this virtual fundraising festival, SolarBuddy are aiming to raise $50,000, which will provide 1,563 lights for girls and will:

• Positively impact 7,815 lives.

• Provide 11,409,898 additional study hours.

• Offset 242.265 tonnes of CO2e - the equivalent of planting 4064 seedlings.

• Reduce families’ expenditure on kerosene by up to 80%.

Providing girls with access to a safe and fulfilling education is one of the greatest ways we can reduce poverty rates and create a healthier future for our planet, and people. Through the gift of light, we can create brighter futures for all.

Two-time ARIA Award winner, APRA Award winner and multi-platinum album selling artist MEGAN WASHINGTON is One Light Only's headline act and all-round superstar!

MAMA KIN (Danielle Caruana), one of Australia’s most charming singer-songwriters will take the stage with her widely renowned, spectacular vocals, foot-stomping rhythms and evocative melodies.

Former INXS frontman and grammy-nominated songwriter CIARAN GRIBBIN will be joining the line-up. Having opened concerts for acts such as Paul McCartney, Crowded House, The Script and Gotye, Ciaran will not disappoint!

Joining them is Australia's best Impersonator, Comedian and One Light Only Emcee, Ben Price, and veteran magician and mentalist Adam Axford who, with 12 years of international experience is sure to leave audiences equal parts awed and inspired.

Adding extra flare to the bill is Australia's top female speed painter, Sarah Rowan! Sarah has been performing for over 15 years with over 400 events under her belt. From the opera house to parliament house, Sarah is leaving her mark wherever she goes. Her goals is to raise millions for charities at fundraising events and so far has reached just over $175K!

The best part? Your ticket purchase will make a real difference to women and girls worldwide, for this generation and for those to come. All proceeds from the event will go towards providing SolarBuddy lights to girls living in extreme energy poverty, providing them with ten years of safe lighting, clean air to breathe, and greater opportunities to study after dusk.
