Online community workshop: Stage 2 Reforms of the Disability Transport Standards

This event has passed Register

Event description

Community consultation on Stage 2 reforms of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 (Transport Standards) is open to 9 August 2022.

People with disability, their families and carers are invited to participate in an online community workshop to provide feedback on the proposed reform options. We want to understand what can be done to help improve access to public transport and remove discrimination.

Workshop details

The workshop will be held online and will run for 2 hours. A Microsoft Teams link will be sent to you in reminder emails after you have registered for the event.

Who should attend?

These workshops are designed for people with disability, their families and carers, however they are open for everyone. Disability advocates and organisations who support people with disability to access public transport are also invited to register and promote the workshops with their clients and members.

*Please note that numbers are limited and preference for attendance will be given to people with disability and community members. If you represent an organisation and would like to be involved in the consultation, please email engage@thesocialdeck.com to find out about other engagement opportunities. You can also make a submission to Stage 2 of the reforms.

What we will cover

Australia has standards for public transport to make sure everyone can access and use it. These standards make sure providers and operators of public transport understand what they need to ensure their services are accessible.

We have already looked at some of the reforms, during Stage 1 last year. Stage 2 is looking at a range of different policy options. These include keeping things the same, or making non-regulatory or regulatory changes.

During the workshop we will ask you about the barriers you might experience when accessing public transport and for your views on proposed reform options relating to:

  1. Finding and accessing information about public transport, technology and buying tickets
  2. Getting on public transport – this includes places you wait for and access public transport
  3. Accessibility and safety on board public transport
  4. Making sure everyone follows the Transport Standards – this means public transport providers and operators.

You can read about the proposed reform options in the Consultation Regulation Impact Statement papers. There is a summary and Easy Read version available.
