Description

Welcome!

This conference - cohosted by Queen Mary and the IPRN - is the culmination of many things, and, we hope, the beginning of many more. One could reasonably trace the origins of contemporary pseudolegal practices to the rise of the tax protest movement and the Posse Comitatus in the United States in the 1960s; by contrast, the field of pseudolaw studies emerged much more recently and in a seemingly more global fashion, approximately a decade ago and roughly contemporaneously in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Pseudolegal practices have exploded in popularity in recent years, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, as shown by the incredible diversity of topics and presenters at this event, so too has the number of researchers paying attention to this serious subject matter.

It is with these developments in mind that we decided not just to organize this conference but also to launch the International Pseudolaw Research Network, which we hope will serve as a valuable resource for anyone interested in pseudolaw, legal conspiracy theories, and related topics. To find out more about the IPRN and become a member, you can visit our website at www.pseudolaw.org.

This conference is being co-hosted by the Criminal Justice Centre, Queen Mary University of London. You can find out more about their activities (and sign up to the mailing list) here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/law/research/research-centres/cjc/
