ONLINE: Establishing and Running a Successful Youth Advisory Group (YAG)
Event description
Due to a number of requests, the Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA) is running an ONLINE training on the topic of Establishing and Running a Successful Youth Advisory Group (YAG) .
This is an opportunity for you to book one or more places at the session without incurring the total cost of booking YACWA to run a training just for your organisation on this topic.
Target audience
Staff from organisations that are looking to set up a Youth Advisory Group (YAG) or want to improve the group that they currently run.
Workshop overview
This workshop will help youth and community sector workers develop a strong understanding how to set up and maintain a best-practice youth advisory group. In this workshop, you will:
- Learn what a Youth Advisory Group is and the different reasons that motivate young people to join one
- Explore the purpose of your YAG
- Look at how to recruit and attract a diversity of young people to your group
- Learn how to explore the skills of the young people involved, as well as maximise and develop those skills
- Discuss the topics of welcoming and onboarding, age and consent, processes and procedures, safe-guarding and supports, making the YAG youth-friendly and accessible, running hybrid meetings and planning the first meeting
- Explore strategies for embedding the YAG within the organisation
The training will be co-facilitated by and include a youth panel with three of YACWA's Youth Consultants who all have considerable experience of being part of and running Youth Advisory Groups.
This is a highly interactive workshop, with group activities and discussions, which will be run in online break out rooms.
As it is a three-hour workshops, two short breaks are included in this session.
** Please note that this session will only run if we reach a minimum of 15 participants. We will advise you as soon as we reach that number, and refund if the training does not go ahead.
