Online forum for older people - National Housing and Homelessness Plan
Description
Join us for an online forum to have your say on the development of the National Housing and Homelessness Plan(the Plan).
The Plan will be a 10-year strategy. It will set out a shared vision to inform future housing and homelessness policy in Australia.
To develop the Plan, we want to hear from older people about their experiences of housing and homelessness.
About the event
The event will be held online via Zoom and will run for 2 hours.
It will include guided discussion and use of online channels such as the Zoom chat.
Numbers are limited to allow for detailed discussion about issues affecting older people when it comes to housing and homelessness.
A waiting list has been enabled. If you go on the waiting list and tickets become available, we will email to let you know.
What we'll talk about
We will ask you about your experiences and ideas relating to accessing housing. We will ask questions like:
- What are some of the main challenges older people face in accessing housing?
- What would help prevent homelessness among older people and make sure they are cared for?
- How can we improve housing for older people?
- How could governments work better with older people and organisations representing them?
You can also read the National Housing and Homelessness Issues Paper – Summary Paper to get more information about some of the issues that will be discussed
Before the event, we will email you more information about what to expect on the day, including more details about how you can participate.

About the National Housing and Homelessness Plan
The Australian Government is developing a National Housing and Homelessness Plan(the Plan) through the Department of Social Services.
The Plan will be a 10-year strategy outlining a shared vision to inform future housing and homelessness policy in Australia.
The Plan is an opportunity to assess issues with the current housing system. It provides a chance to identify what needs to be done to improve the housing and homelessness sectors.
The Plan will set out the key changes needed in the short, medium and longer term.
The Plan is being developed in collaboration with key stakeholders including state and territory governments, local government, not-for-profit and civil society organisations, industry bodies, superannuation funds and other experts in housing, finance and urban development.
