An introduction to Indigenous foodways, ecological stewardship, and responsible acorn harvesting

Join us for a welcoming introduction to acorn harvesting through the ACORNS! Project Arc by the Alameda Native History Project.

Acorns have sustained Indigenous communities in California for thousands of years. This Level 1 Acorn Harvest Training introduces the cultural, ecological, and practical foundations of working with one of the most important traditional foods in the region. Participants will learn why acorns matter, how responsible harvesting works, and how Indigenous stewardship practices continue to shape healthy oak landscapes today.

An Indigenous-Led Learning Space
This session is designed as a public introduction and everyone is welcome to attend. Participants are asked to respect the Indigenous space they are being invited into and recognize that the training is grounded in Indigenous knowledge, cultural practice, and community stewardship.

• Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours

• Capacity: Limited to maintain an interactive session

• Cost: $15

• Access: Meeting link will be sent the day before the event

Certification
Participants who complete the training and pass the short assessment will receive their Level 1 Acorn Harvest Certification by mail.

About the Program
This event is part of a broader certification framework developed through the ACORNS! Project Arc by the Alameda Native History Project. The program works to revive Indigenous food systems, support responsible harvesting practices, and reconnect communities with traditional ecological knowledge.

Space is limited to keep the training focused and interactive. Registration is required.
