Free Online Masterclass: Pitching to Media, with Peppermint magazine!

Pitching to the media seems scarier than it really is. In reality, we’re all just people, wading through an overflowing inbox, panning for gold. But how do you show an editor or journalist that your business is the gem they’ve been searching for – and how do you stay true to your brand in the process?

Get the inside scoop on how to get seen – directly from Peppermint magazine founder Kelley Sheenan and editor Lauren Baxter.

You’ll walk away knowing:

🔥 How to research media organisations and find the right person to talk to!
🔥 The benefits of being featured in the media – is it worth all the effort?
🔥 The three things you should have ready to send to your publication of choice.
🔥 What an editor or journalist needs to know about you and your business (and what you can leave out).
🔥 How to nail a media interview!
🔥 You did it! You got the exposure – what now?

In this one-hour session, Kelley and Lauren will share insights they’ve gleaned from decades of experience (and hundreds of pitches!). Passionate about print and set on supporting small business, these two media experts will help you feel confident and prepared for pitching to media – you might even get your biz in Peppermint

Meet your hosts!

Kelley Sheenan

Kelley Sheenan is the founder, editor-in-chief and designer of Peppermint. A former graphic and fashion designer from New Zealand, Kelley became passionate about the environmental and ethical issues in the fashion industry and beyond, which sparked her drive to combine her skills in fashion, graphics and photography to create a platform to educate and inspire.

Launched in 2008 from Kelley’s lounge room in Brisbane, backed by tunnel vision and sleepless nights, Peppermint is now an award-winning print and digital magazine distributed in Australia and New Zealand, showcasing style, sustainability, sewing and substance. Kelley has worked relentlessly to evolve Peppermint from its original roots as a sustainable fashion magazine to a shining example of positive, empowering media with purpose, picking up multiple awards along the way: Best in Sustainability in Publishing and Best Design for a Consumer Magazine and Designer of the Year at the 2009 Publishers Australia Bell Magazine Excellence Awards, Consumer Magazine of the Year in 2015 (under 20,000 circ.), Mumbrella Award for Sustainable Practices in 2021 and an Australian Good Design Award in 2022.

Wearing multiple hats, Kelley is also a photographer and graphic designer, has completed the Al Gore Climate Reality Leadership Corps training and the Brené Brown ‘Dare To Lead’ program, created the Waverley Wrashie – a sustainable swim brand (receiving another Australian Good Design Award) and always has several other projects on the backburner!

Lauren Baxter

Lauren Baxter is the editor of the quarterly Australian publication Peppermint. While overseeing all things across Peppermint’s print and digital output, an average day can see her turning her hand to writing, editing, art direction, styling and more. She has worked professionally in media for almost 10 years and is passionate about making a positive impact through the power of authentic storytelling. With a keen eye on cultural and social movements, Lauren’s vision for Peppermint is to champion marginalised voices and promote slow, considered articles that readers can sink their teeth into – the kinds of stories that perhaps raise more questions than they provide answers.
