Event description

"Small beetle, big problem! The Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB)

PSHB is a wood-boring invasive beetle that excavates tunnels in the trunks and branches of trees. PSHB introduces a Fusarium fungus into these tunnels which it cultivates as a food source. In susceptible species, this fungus causes dieback and tree death.

This information session will cover aspects of the beetle including its biology, lifecycle, potential impacts, susceptible tree species, the signs and symptoms to look for, what the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is doing to stop the spread of this pest and how to report suspect borer activity.

Community surveillance, education and action is an important part of stopping the spread of this pest. Learn more about how this impacts green waste disposal and transportation of plant and wood material.
