    Event description

    Overview

Take part in a two-hour media training workshop with journalist Jenny Valentish (ABC/Guardian/Sydney Morning Herald), also author of the research-led addiction memoir Woman of Substances. We will examine the lay of the land when it comes to both national and local rural media. Bring a pen and paper and be ready for a jam-packed session with exercises.

    Who should attend?

This event is open to NADA members only. Due to limited spaces, there will be a limit of two staff per service. If you have more staff wanting to attend, please email sharon@nada.org.au and we will place them on a waitlist.

    Other information

    We will explore:

    • how to prepare for an interview and do on-the-spot damage control if things are not going the way you’d planned
    • ways of de-jargoning language for the public
    • ways to portray your service
    • ways of comfortably working in your own story
    • developing new angles not reliant on the media’s rock-bottom-to-redemption story
    •  hot topics rurally, such as NIMBYism and the media’s obsession with ‘ice capitals of Australia’
    • and writing press releases.
