Online training: Talking AOD to the media
Event description
OverviewÂ
Take part in a two-hour media training workshop with journalist Jenny Valentish (ABC/Guardian/Sydney Morning Herald), also author of the research-led addiction memoir Woman of Substances. We will examine the lay of the land when it comes to both national and local rural media. Bring a pen and paper and be ready for a jam-packed session with exercises.Â
Who should attend?Â
This event is open to NADA members only. Due to limited spaces, there will be a limit of two staff per service. If you have more staff wanting to attend, please email sharon@nada.org.au and we will place them on a waitlist.Â

- how to prepare for an interview and do on-the-spot damage control if things are not going the way you’d planned Â
- ways of de-jargoning language for the public  Â
- ways to portray your service Â
- ways of comfortably working in your own story Â
- developing new angles not reliant on the media’s rock-bottom-to-redemption story Â
-  hot topics rurally, such as NIMBYism and the media’s obsession with ‘ice capitals of Australia’  Â
- and writing press releases.Â
