Oot & Aboot - Community Hike - Cape Woolamai Circuit
Description
📍 Cape Woolamai Circuit
📅 Saturday 3 Oct 2026
🕙 Meet at 10:00am at Cape Woolamai Surf Beach Car Park
Join us for a relaxed and social group hike around one of Phillip Island's most spectacular headlands. The Cape Woolamai Circuit takes in sweeping surf beaches, dramatic pink granite cliffs, the iconic Pinnacles rock formations, and sweeping 360-degree views from the island's highest point.
This event is designed for people who enjoy getting outdoors, meeting new people, and challenging themselves at their own pace. Whether you're a regular hiker or just getting started, you're welcome to join.
This is an adult-only (18+) event. Unfortunately we're unable to accommodate pets, though registered assistance animals are welcome — dogs aren't permitted within the Cape Woolamai Faunal Reserve, which protects nesting shearwaters and hooded plovers.
Walk Difficulty
This is considered a moderate walk, with some steep sections, a stretch of soft sand, and exposed clifftop tracks.
Approx. 8.5km loop
Mix of beach walking, granite clifftop trails, and gravel paths, with some steep sections
Allow around 3-4 hours depending on pace
Good fitness recommended, and be prepared for wind — Cape Woolamai is very exposed
We'll take breaks as needed, including a stop at the Pinnacles lookout and the Beacon at the island's highest point, and keep the group together.
Getting There
Cape Woolamai is about 1hr 45min to 2 hours' drive from Melbourne CBD (approx. 140km), depending on traffic. There's no practical public transport option for this one, so car access is essential.
Parking is available at the Cape Woolamai Surf Beach Car Park.
Carpooling is encouraged for those who'd like to share a ride — we'll share an optional WhatsApp group link closer to the date so attendees can coordinate lifts directly amongst themselves. Please note the carpool arrangements are between individuals, and Oot & Aboot isn't involved in organising specific rides. Joining is completely optional — your phone number may be visible to other members — and the group will be deleted 3 days after the event.
