Oot & Aboot - Community Hike - Dandenong Ranges Loop
Description
📍 Dandenong Ranges Loop
📅 Sunday 15 Nov 2026
🕙 Meet at 10:00am at Grey Gum Carpark. https://maps.app.goo.gl/QFSVY1orYiyZw2Se9
Join us for a relaxed and social group hike through one of Melbourne's most beloved forest escapes. The Dandenong Ranges Loop winds through the towering Mountain Ash and cool temperate rainforest of Dandenong Ranges National Park, taking in the exotic trees of the RJ Hamer Arboretum, lush fern gullies, and sweeping views over Silvan Reservoir.
This event is designed for people who enjoy getting outdoors, meeting new people, and challenging themselves at their own pace. Whether you're a regular hiker or just getting started, you're welcome to join.
This is an adult-only (18+) event. Unfortunately we're unable to accommodate pets, though registered assistance animals are welcome.
Walk Difficulty
This is considered a moderate walk, with some sustained uphill sections along forest trails and dirt roads.
Approx. 11km loop
Mix of gravel tracks, forest trails, and some on-road walking (dirt roads)
Allow around 3.5–4 hours depending on pace
Reasonable fitness recommended
We'll take breaks as needed, including a stop at the RJ Hamer Arboretum and the Silvan Reservoir lookout, and keep the group together.
Getting There
The Dandenong Ranges are about 45 min to 1 hour's drive from Melbourne CBD, depending on traffic and your starting point.
Parking is available at the Grey Gum Carpark.
Carpooling is encouraged for those who'd like to share a ride — we'll share an optional WhatsApp group link closer to the date so attendees can coordinate lifts directly amongst themselves. Please note the carpool arrangements are between individuals, and Oot & Aboot isn't involved in organising specific rides. Joining is completely optional — your phone number may be visible to other members — and the group will be deleted 3 days after the event.
