Description

📍 Point Nepean Via Coles Track
📅 Saturday 05 Dec 2026
🕙 Meet at 10:00am at Parking lot, Portsea. https://maps.app.goo.gl/cM1aGuiDK6PgK1w87

Join us for a relaxed and social group hike along one of the Mornington Peninsula's most scenic coastal trails. Point Nepean via Coles Track takes you through native coastal bushland and along historic Defence Road, with the option to walk along the beach, past remnants of WWII fortifications and the historic Quarantine Station, all the way out toward the tip of the peninsula with sweeping views of Bass Strait and Port Phillip Bay.

This event is designed for people who enjoy getting outdoors, meeting new people, and challenging themselves at their own pace. Whether you're a regular hiker or just getting started, you're welcome to join.

This is an adult-only (18+) event. Unfortunately we're unable to accommodate pets, though registered assistance animals are welcome — dogs aren't permitted within Point Nepean National Park to protect local wildlife.

Walk Difficulty

This is considered an easy walk, mostly flat with shared paths, sealed roads, and coastal bush tracks.

  • Approx. 10.5km return

  • Mix of coastal track, shared paths, and road walking, with an option to walk along the beach for part of the way

  • Allow around 2.5–3 hours depending on pace

  • Suitable for most fitness levels — there's little shade, so sun protection is a must

We'll take breaks as needed, including a stop to explore the historic Quarantine Station, and keep the group together.

Getting There
Portsea is about 1.5 to 2 hours' drive from Melbourne CBD, depending on traffic and your starting point.

Parking is available at the parking lot in Portsea.

Carpooling is encouraged for those who'd like to share a ride — an optional WhatsApp group link will be sent at least a week before the event, so you can coordinate lifts directly with other attendees. Please note the carpool arrangements are between individuals, and Oot & Aboot isn't involved in organising specific rides. Joining is completely optional — your phone number may be visible to other members — and the group will be deleted 3 days after the event.
