Opal Evolution Light From Deep Time
Description
Watch Andamooka’s ancient past come to life through ultraviolet light, illuminated puppets, colour, storytelling and projections across the outback landscape.
A glowing parade of dinosaur and marine-creature puppets will represent the remarkable opalised fossils found beneath Andamooka, remnants of animals that lived here when inland Australia was covered by the ancient Eromanga Sea.
As darkness falls, One Tree Hill and the mullock heaps behind Cal the Stoner’s Intricarved Stone Sculpture Studio will become an outdoor gallery. Video, photography and colourful projected imagery will illuminate the landscape, accompanied by special talks exploring Andamooka opal, opalised fossils and the stories held within this ancient country.

Opal Evolution is free to attend.
Tita’s Treats will be serving Festival food available to purchase throughout the evening. The event bar will offer beer, cider, wine, premixed drinks, soft drinks and water for purchase.
Come and experience Andamooka after dark, where art, science, ancient history and the glow of opal meet beneath the outback sky.
Opal Evolution is presented as part of the 2026 Nature Festival, in partnership with OSCA and supported by the Australian Government through Festivals Australia.
