Event description

OPEN CHRISTCHURCH 2025: College House (University of Canterbury Hall of Residence)

Architects: Warren and Mahoney, 1964-67; restoration and alterations: Wilkie & Bruce, 2022

Where: 100 Waimairi Road, Upper Riccarton (The meeting point will be sent to registered attendees)

Sir Miles Warren deemed College House their best building. They assembled modernist materials to form not just a dormitory, but a community, complete with common rooms and outdoor spaces in a masterful layout that encourages connection. The Oxbridge tradition of quads and halls melds with modernism in this effortless display, with a nod to Gothic Revival in the reverse pitched copper roofs. Allow 45 mins. $5 + BFs.
