Get behind closed doors and into what was the once the centre of social and political life for the elite of Canterbury’s colonists. In a departure from his favoured Gothic Revival style, Mountfort's design is based on the Italian Villa style of simple elegance, thought appropriate for what was, then, a relatively rural setting.
