Open Christchurch 2025: The Christchurch Club
Event description
OPEN CHRISTCHURCH 2025: The Christchurch Club
Architects: Benjamin Mountfort, 1859-60; restoration & addition: Warren & Mahoney, 2015
Where: Central City (The meeting point will be sent to registered attendees)
Get behind closed doors and into what was the once the centre of social and political life for the elite of Canterbury’s colonists. In a departure from his favoured Gothic Revival style, Mountfort's design is based on the Italian Villa style of simple elegance, thought appropriate for what was, then, a relatively rural setting. Find out more on a tour with architectural historian Jenny May. $5 + BFs.
