Event description

Join Wemba Wemba-Wergaia educator, ecologist and creator of Lost Lands Found, Dean Stewart, who will use the 4x4 metre living installation packed with indigenous flowers, grasses, herbs and lilies to inspire you to create a wildflower meadow in your own garden at home.

Lost Lands Found is located near the corner of Burke and Wattletree Roads in Central Park, Malvern. It features over 60 densely planted indigenous species that provide a home for pollinators to thrive. You are encouraged to get to know and identify these native plants that can be easily added to your own home gardens of any size and provide habitat to support local biodiversity. All of these plants once flourished throughout Melbourne prior to European settlement, but less than 1% of this vibrant habitat remains today.

Following this tour, grab a bite to eat at a nearby cafe and stick around to participate in the annual Pollinator Count at 12:30pm hosted by City of Stonnington. You'll hear from entomologist Dr Luis Mata about why local pollinators are an important part of a healthy, urban environment, and learn how to recognise key species. You will take part in the 2024 Australian Pollinator Count, a national citizen science event in which participants contribute important data that helps researchers better understand how Australia's pollinator populations change over time. Book here.
