Event description

It’s been a bit since we held an Open Home in Ōtautahi Christchurch, so we’re delighted to announce our final event with our friends at Dulux for the year will be in the Garden City.

On offer: two new family homes on established streets, replacing earthquake-damaged houses that proved uneconomic to fix. In Merivale, Prue Johnstone and Mike Callaghan designed a new house for Johnstone’s partner Nick Cowdy, riffing lightly on the Christchurch School. A wide gable roof, timber beams and bricks set the scene for this elegant, but hard-working, family home.

And, in Somerfield, Fabric’s Mitchell Coll has designed Red Pine Villa – a finalist in this year’s Here Awards – to replace another quake-damaged villa. With a hipped roof and a narrow front yard, it has subtle nods to the villa it replaced, along with a loosely Japanese sensibility. With a screened courtyard connecting the house to the street, flexibility is built into the design – it’s able to be moved on the section, or somewhere else entirely, in the future.

We’re looking forward to visiting both of these houses in person – we’ll see you there!
