Open Path Martial Arts presents: Practical Self Defence for the Queer Community
Event description
Please note: This is an 18+ event
This hour long self defence seminar distils Sensei Bea’s 15+ years of Goju-Ryu Karate experience into practical techniques to keep yourself safe. We will cover de-escalation strategies, techniques, and analyse scenarios together to help you know what to do. We highlight simple, effective, and legal strategies to ensure you can live proudly and safely.
Sensei Bea has been instructing for almost a decade all across WA, and is the founding instructor of Open Path Martial Arts. Our focus is on empowering the queer community, and has led us to work in partnership with the International Association of Gay and Lesbian Martial Artists and the Pink Belt Project.
As a standard, we operate with the understanding that different people of different body types will have different ability levels. All our training involves each student working on their understanding of the fundamental intention behind our drills, and we work with them to ensure it’s adapted to their use case. Frequent breaks will be utilised to prevent fatigue, and there is always the understanding that some students may need to bow out briefly to rest if required.
This event will be run on the land of the Whadjuk Noongar people. We pay our respects to their continued connection to land, water, and culture, and to elders past and present.
