Event description

This event is free to attend.

Overview

Join us in rehearsal for The Wound, the Rag & the In-Between, written by Annie MacDonald, and directed by Keira Smith.

An open rehearsal is a rare opportunity to see a production in development; this show has been fully developed and produced in the Highlands and is staffed by mostly early-career theatre-makers from the north of Scotland. This is an ideal opportunity for other emerging and early-career theatre-makers in the region who wish to get an insight into the process of staging a show, and will be of interest to those who are planning to see the production on the 4th May at Eden Court to see how the show develops from week 2 of rehearsal to the final show.

During the rehearsal there will be a short break for the room and, before the end of the session, there will be time to talk informally with the team. While rehearsals are in progress, attendees should not interact with the set or artists, and will be asked to have their phones off. Photography is not allowed.

More details to follow.

Synopsis

Dip a rag in the burn,
Knot it to the tree,
In its decay,
Comes the remedy.

A lone clootie tree stands between the breathing and the buried, the hurt and the healing, the forgotten and the future.

A journalist returns home, determined to unravel a Victorian mystery of a suspicious death. The history she reveals exposes secrets that had been buried for generations.

By the clootie tree, in a place meant for recovery and wellbeing, tragic forces are looming, ever-present.

This new play brings together Highland theatre-makers to tell a sorrowful story set in the Far North of Scotland, past and present.

Commissioned by Vivid Roots Collective to explore gender inequalities in medicine, emerging Highland playwright, Annie MacDonald, offers a poignant and powerful response, telling a story which reaches across centuries. The Wound, the Rag and the In-Between asks unsettling questions about the spaces between trust, belief and recovery.
