Opening and Artist Talks | Tannic Bonds & Keeping Time

Join us to celebrate the opening of two exciting new exhibitions Tannic Bonds and Keeping Time, a solo exhibition by Echuca-based artist Ellen Lee.

Curated Dr Megan R. Fizell and Olivia Welch, Tannic Bonds draws together artists from a range of disciplines to explore the cultural and ancestral connections evoked by tannins – organic compounds found in fruit, seeds, roots, and bark. Just like family, home, community, and custom, tannins leave their mark: they have a bitter taste and vivid pigment, making them universally applicable food for thought. Artists include Moorina Bonini, d harding, Kirtika Kain, Shivanjani Lal, Monica Rani Rudhar, Cameron Robbins, Abdullah M.I. Syed and Jayanto Tan.

Ellen Lee’s Keeping Time is a collection of large-scale works on paper capturing the artist’s observations of Banyula State Forest. Lee traces the shifting light, seasonal rhythms, and ecological changes occurring in the site through watercolour, graphite, and natural matter such as leaf tannins and rust residue, prompting us to rethink our relationship to place.

Hear Yorta Yorta, Wurundjeri and Wiradjuri artist Moorina Bonini and Sydney based artist Monica Rani Rudhar speak to their moving work in Tannic Bonds, before the official launch of both exhibitions.

Join us for a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country by Dale French of Baranjuk Footprints followed by opening formalities and a talk by Tannic Bonds curators Meg Fizell and Olivia Welch.
