Opening Event | Margaret McIntosh 'Placky Bags'
Event description
Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley proudly presents Margaret McIntosh’s sophomore exhibition ‘Placky Bags’ showing from 26 August – 20 September 2025.
Join us in the gallery for the Opening on Saturday 30 August, 2 - 4pm. This free event is a chance to mingle with the artist and learn more about their work and the themes of the exhibition.
In her latest exhibition, McIntosh explores the intersection between urban waste and natural scavenging and draws a parallel between the sprawl of hard rubbish piles and the ritual of crows picking at a carcass. Hard rubbish scavengers repurpose and transform discarded domestic materials not unlike the way in which crows transform death into sustenance.
‘Placky Bags aims to challenge our relationship to consumption and waste, and to reimagine what we call dead, broken or done’, says McIntosh.
Margaret McIntosh is a 2024 Paddington Art Prize finalist and lives and works in Melbourne. Her work explores the narrative of the everyday and investigates the spaces we occupy, the symbolism in domesticity along with the fragility of the human condition.
