After thirty years, artists James McGrath and Matthew Rogers reunite for The Long Conversation — a pop-up exhibition exploring memory, gesture, and perception through painting and digital media. This rare collaboration brings together two parallel practices in a shared visual dialogue.

At the heart of the show is a dramatic three-metre-high hybrid work combining oil painting and three-channel digital projection. This central piece bridges McGrath's theatrical baroque style with Rogers' abstract restraint, offering viewers a rich interplay of motion and stillness, surface and depth.

About the Host

James McGrath is a Sydney-born artist and architect whose work fuses traditional oil painting with digital media and baroque spatial techniques. With over 25 years of practice, he is known for immersive artworks that explore the relationship between memory, technology, and historical image-making.

McGrath studied under master painters and architects, and began his career as a studio assistant to renowned Australian artist Arthur Boyd. His work has been exhibited internationally, blending classical influences with contemporary reflections on nature, gesture, and time. His digital installations and oil works have appeared at venues including the Detroit Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, and Olsen Gallery.

In The Long Conversation, McGrath reunites with longtime friend and collaborator Matthew Rogers to present a pop-up exhibition that bridges painting and projection, inviting audiences into a shared artistic dialogue built over decades.
