Opening - Paula Broom: Locales I Love: Waverley
Description
Join us at the Waverley Library Galleries for the opening of Paula Broom's exhibition, Locales I Love: Waverley.
Locales I Love: Waverley is a participatory stitched memory map bringing together photographs, memories, thoughts, stories and statements from 35 contributors, each reflecting on a location or venue they love within the Waverley LGA. The project grew out of Broom's longstanding interest in place and belonging, and her thinking about how iconic sites, such as Bondi Beach, Australia’s most famous and photographed beach, are so often experienced through the lens of other people. Once circulated through postcards and snapshots, these mediated views are now more often encountered on screens via social media.
The “I” in Locales I Love is the participant’s “I”, not Broom's own. While she conceived and assembled the work, its photographs, memories and experiences belong to its contributors.
Alongside Locales I Love: Waverley, a selection of Broom's photographic works reflects her broader interest in landscape and place.
