Add an additional donation for PROTESTRA of any amount
First assembled in 2017 and formally incorporated in 2020, PROTESTRA (protest + orchestra) is a 501(c)(3) organization that bridges the divide between advocacy and classical music. PROTESTRA's grassroots orchestral benefit concerts inspire activism by contextualizing classical music performance through multimedia education, and turn voluntary audience donations into targeted support for mission- and policy- driven groups related to the concerts' themes. Since 2017, PROTESTRA has held 15 issue-centered benefit concerts that centered on topics including immigration/mass deportation, racial justice, violence against the AAPI community, climate change, women’s history, gun violence, mental health, food insecurity, humanitarian aid to Gaza, and government censorship. PROTESTRA has contributed over $68,000 to partner nonprofits related to each concert’s theme. Our beneficiaries include Doctors Without Borders, HIAS, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Heart of Dinner, Friends of ANIM (Afghanistan National Institute of Music), the Environmental Defense Fund, WE ACT 4 Environmental Justice, Girls for Gender Equity, Save Our Streets Brooklyn, Everytown for Gun Safety, IHI Therapy Center, Open Path Psychotherapy Collective, EVLovesNYC, PCRF, Anera, New York Immigration Coalition, NYCLU, Inara, Make the Road NJ, Hour Children, First Friends of NJ & NY, Movimiento Cosecha Support Network, and now Acacia Center for Justice.
