Description

Starting at the State Buildings, this walk explores Perth through the architecture that has defined it. Moving from colonial barracks and nineteenth-century government offices to boom-era hotels, railway infrastructure, educational institutions, and contemporary heritage projects, we uncover the forces that have shaped the city's-built environment. Through questions of style, material, craftsmanship, adaptation, and urban change, the tour reveals how Perth's history is written into its streets. It is a journey through nearly two centuries of architectural ambition, civic identity, and continual reinvention. Join Eddie Marcus on this incredible walking tour of the Perth CBD.

Start: State Buildings entrance, St George's Terrace

End: PICA Bar, Cultural Centre

Duration: Approx 90 minutes

Who: Suitable for anyone with an interest in architecture, heritage, urban history, and the stories that have shaped our built environment.

Accessibility: The route is relatively gentle, with frequent stops to examine buildings. The walk takes place on paved footpaths, although there are limited opportunities for seating along the route. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, particularly in warm weather.
