Oral Storytelling Workshop for Women

Event description

When we bring craft to the storytelling we do naturally, we begin to understand the nature of story. We can then improve our stories to be more engaging, effective and influential. This workshop will set you on the path to developing as a storyteller.

In the two hour online workshop we will cover:

  • What’s all the fuss about, why story?
  • How to look for and find stories
  • The classic story structure and how to use it
  • And then you’ll have a crack; you’ll choose a memory, spend a some time shaping it, and in online breakout rooms, you’ll share and listen in pairs.

This workshop is informative, practical and gives you direct experience of telling a story, and the best way to learn is by doing.

This workshop will be delivered by Kate Lawrence. Kate has developed her storytelling and story teaching skills over the last decade, after spending 17 years as a community lawyer, then in local government, community engagement and disaster preparedness. She has a deep and abiding faith in human stories and the profound and cathartic impact of crafting and sharing our stories. She is a two-time Moth Story Slam winner, and a one-time TEDx speaker, and now makes narrative and documentary podcasts.
