6 Day Orange Tour

Immerse yourself in the “food basket of NSW” as it comes alive to showcase the finest fresh produce and cool climate wines. We travel to Orange over F.O.O.D Week, Australia’s longest regional food festival. Celebrate the region's diverse and high-quality food and wine.

Day 1 (LD): HOME TO ORANGE                                                                                                Monday 07 April 2025

Greeted with a smile as you board the Port Bus touring coach to Orange, in the central west. Orange is a historic town with the buildings and streetscape reflecting the rich heritage dating back to the 1880s. This morning, we loaded the coach and completed our pickup service ready for departure. We follow the coast south before heading into the Blue Mo mountains. World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, a spectacular part of Australia's heritage, covering some 218,000 hectares of rugged beauty, a variety of terrain, and a diversity of microclimates and ecological wealth.  Stopping in Ourimbah for lunch at the Ourimbah RSL Club. Our journey this afternoon takes us into the mountains. On arrival, we head to Lithgow for our overnight accommodation.

Day 2 (BLD) LITHGOW TO ORANGE                                                                                          Tuesday 08 April 2025

Following breakfast we make our way to Bathurst; on arrival, we meet a local specialist for a town tour. Next is a visit to Abercrombie House. Built in the 1870s, the home contains some 40 rooms, and the beautiful gardens are listed as part of the National Estate. With its mixture of Gothic and Scottish baronial styles, Abercrombie House has been acknowledged as one of the finest historical mansions in Australia. We enjoy a tour and then lunch.  We now make our way through to Orange, where glorious rolling hills combine with lush orchards, acclaimed vineyards, and gourmet produce. We are met by a local guide who will introduce us to the town including Cook Park and the Botanic Gardens. The gardens feature an impressive native and exotic plant collection on a 17-hectare site. Road conditions permitting we also travel up to the top of Mount Canobolas for panoramic views. At 1395m above sea level, Mount Canobolas is an extinct volcano encircled by a nature reserve rich in native fauna and is the highest point between the Blue Mountains and the Indian Ocean.

Day 3 (BLD) ORANGE F.O.O.D FESTIVAL                                                                         Wednesday 09 April 2025

We have arranged a visit to the wonderful Fourjay Farm which grows Hazelnuts. We will be given a talk on the farm and the hazelnut. Their unsaturated oils help lower harmful cholesterol levels as the raw kernels are high in antioxidants, particularly vitamin E. While here we will enjoy a delicious morning tea using some of the produce. Continuing with our food theme we visit Hillside Harvest. This 75-acre property proudly yields many varieties of fruit and is passionate about food, on arrival we enjoy a walk through the orchard followed by a lovely lunch served using delicious fresh produce. Following our delicious lunch, there will be time for a quick stop at Trunkey Bacon and Pork a local producer of bacon, kransky, and chorizo. With time left in our day why not consider returning to one of the enticing Orange F.O.O.D festival producers to indulge in some goodies.

Day 4 (BLD): MILLTHORPE & CANOWINDRA                                                                    Thursday 10 April 2025

Today we explore the local region to the south of here. Traveling through the historic township of  Spring Hill with its circa 1874 Methodist Church, Temperance Hall (circa 1883), and the Whistle Stop Tavern built in 1911. At Millthorpe we stop for a visit and lunch at the Millthorpe Museum. Millthorpe was known as Spring Grove until 1884 and still retains all its charm of yesteryear. The museum has a fascinating history of pioneering days, gold discovery and mining displays, and a huge collection of farm machinery. The Good Templars Hall houses many treasures – Victorian and Edwardian pieces as well as a pistol and fossicking pick belonging to John Lister. Following lunch here we continue through to Canowindra. Situated on the Lachlan River, the town’s curving main street has several interesting old buildings dating back to the 1800s. We’ll visit the Age of Fishes Museum, home to some very rare and important fish fossils that palaeontologist’s date to 360 million years ago.  This afternoon we have some free time back in Orange.

Day 5 (BLD): ORANGE VIA MANILA AND MOLONG TO TAMWORTH              Friday 11 April 2025

This morning, we head out to the town of Manildra where we visit the rare, purpose-built art deco Amusu Theatre. The theatre was opened in 1936 by Allan Tom and has been operated by the same family since. Firstly, Allan screened silent movies then with the advent of “talkies”, the Amusu Touring  Talkies was born. We’ll enjoy a couple of ‘golden oldie’ short movies here and a trip down memory lane in what has been described as, a “living icon of the importance of film and cinema” during NSW’s cultural history. We then drive through to the historic village of Molong to visit and enjoy morning tea at the Molong Yarn Market. It is here we can view the famous tapestry created by the people of Molong and district, as their contribution to the bicentenary. Travelling through to Gulgong we stop for a slightly later lunch at the Gulgong RSL Club.  Sit back and relax as we now travel to Tamworth for the last night on tour.

Day 6 (B): TAMWORTH TO HOME                                                                           

Saturday 12 April 2025

We bid farewell to our hosts this morning and made our way north through to Walcha for our morning break. A significant primary producing area, Walcha is also known as a producer of high-quality native hardwoods.  We make our way home with stops along the way arriving with many wonderful memories of our 6-day holiday travelling with friends.
