Orchid Discovery Tour with Andrew Brown
Event description
We invite you to join Western Australia's most renowned orchid taxonomist Andrew Brown as he leads this tour in the southern area of the shire.
Bio: Andrew Brown
Andrew’s interest and study of native orchids began near Perth when, as a young boy, he was shown a copy of Rica Erickson’s Orchids of the West. There were large areas of natural bushland close to his home and it was not long before he found many of the orchids listed in the book. His professional life with orchids started in 1985 when he obtained a position in the Flora Conservation Research group at CALM (now DBCA) and, with Stephen Hopper, he began conducting taxonomic studies of our native orchids. This research has continued to the present day and over this time he has authored/co-authored 11 books on Western Australian orchids and has collaborated in the formal descriptions of 141 new Western Australian orchid species.
Andrew will be accompanied by Christopher Biddulph one of our treasured volunteer citizen scientist.
Lunch and a guided Orchid walk will be supplied at Springdale Courtyard Cafe included in the price; time to be confirmed.
