Meet the Maker: '57 Chocolate, Ghana
Event description
We're going to Ghana!
Start your Saturday off with a virtual chocolate tasting with sisters Kim and Priscilla Addison of '57 Chocolate in Accra, Ghana and Chocolopolis Chief Chocophile, Lauren Adler.
Kim and Priscilla will share their stories and how they started '57 Chocolate, a name which pays homage to Ghana's independence from Britain.
Ghana is the second largest producer of cocoa in the world, representing 20% of bulk-market, commodity production. While Ghana is one of the largest players in the cocoa market, it exports most of its cocoa to other countries and produces very little chocolate inside its borders. There is a growing craft chocolate movement in Ghana that aims to change this dynamic.
Kim and Priscilla represent this new generation. One of the earliest small-batch, craft chocolate makers in Ghana, they refine local cocoa and add local ingredients to produce tasty chocolate with a sense of place.
Tickets with chocolate include three full-size bars and shipping within
the US. We also offer tickets without the chocolate if you are located
outside the US and would like to attend.
We'll taste these bars:
- Dark 73%
- Milk Chocolate with Toasted Coconut
- Bissap (Hibiscus-flavored white chocolate)
We've chosen bars that represent the many flavors and agricultural crops of Ghana. Lauren fell in love with these bars during her visit to Ghana in 2019.
