Come From Away (Opening Night)
Event description
Come From Away tells the true story of how the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, became the unexpected host to thousands of stranded passengers on September 11, 2001. After 38 planes were diverted to Gander’s airstrip, the isolated community welcomed the travelers, overcoming cultural and language barriers with music, open bars, and a sense of global solidarity.
Winner of four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical (London), and the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical (Broadway), the show has captured hearts worldwide, sharing the stories of 7,000 passengers cared for by the townspeople.
CONTENT WARNING:
The event that brings people together in the Come From Away story stems from the 9/11 attack in New York. This event is referenced occasionally in the show and the production design may include footage related to the event.
