Ōtautahi Storytelling Rōpū: Learning with Stories Community of Practice
Description
What does it mean to care for the stories of our people, communities and place and how might we carry them further, together?
Stories of our place are not held by one person or organisation. They live in our communities, our relationships and our collective memory and their future is something we can shape together. Join storytellers and narrative stewards from across Ōtautahi Christchurch for a day of connection, sharing and collective exploration. This community of practice gathering brings together people who create, facilitate, curate, host, share, amplify and care for the stories that shape how we understand ourselves, each other and the place we call home.
WHEN: Tuesday 17 November, 11:45am-4pm (mihi whakatau commences at 11:45am sharp)
WHERE: Te Ngira, Multicultural Centre (455 Hagley Ave)
Through shared experiences, kōrero and creative activities, we’ll explore the practices, relationships and possibilities that sustain storytelling in our city.
What to expect:
A range of creative and practical storytelling approaches, from visual storytelling and photography to podcasting, interviews, movement, poetry, zine-making and public speaking. Discover how to communicate stories with clarity and impact, including using short-form communication techniques to share organisational stories and inspire positive change. Whether through images, words, movement or conversation, these sessions offer opportunities to experiment with different ways of capturing experiences, expressing perspectives and connecting with others.
Together, we’ll consider how we can strengthen connections across communities, support more diverse voices and perspectives, and collectively care for, cultivate and carry Ōtautahi’s stories into the future.
Whether you’re a community storyteller, creative practitioner, cultural practitioner, archivist, curator, community organisation, funder or someone who helps create space for stories to be heard, there’s a place for you in this conversation.
Come to share what you do, learn from others, discover opportunities for collaboration, and imagine what we might make possible together.
