Out of the Weeds: Clearing the Way for Beauty and Connection
Event description
Join us for an inspiring lecture by Emily Rylander, Principal at the acclaimed Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture (ACLA) firm. In "Out of the Weeds: Clearing the Way for Beauty and Connection," Emily will share insights from her two decades of experience designing landscapes that balance complexity with clarity—spaces that resonate with beauty, purpose, and human connection.
Emily brings a uniquely local perspective to her work, with degrees from Stanford University and a Master of Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley. Since joining ACLA in 2004, she has led numerous award-winning projects across public, institutional, and residential spaces—including the Helen Diller Civic Center Playgrounds, UCSF’s Smith Cardiovascular Research Building, and UC Berkeley’s Anchor House.
Her work exemplifies the ACLA philosophy: the seamless integration of landscape, architecture, and art to create experientially rich and ecologically sensitive environments. The San Francisco-based firm has received numerous national honors, including the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award.
This event is a must for anyone interested in the intersection of landscape, design, and community.
